There are several audio devotees who choose to play a set of two retro speakers or perhaps a vacuum tube amplifier developed at some time within the fifties versus the so-called micro-processor driven, electronic sounding equipment made these days. Likely one in the very best sounding old style loudspeakers are the Tannoy Berkeleys. Tannoy also created a speaker known as the canterbury which had been awesome just as well. If you can purchase these at auction I would without a doubt grab a pair.

The Tannoy Canterbury sets the product quality for the reproduction of low frequency efficiency, extraordinary dynamic spectrum and attractiveness. This flexible loudspeaker is ideal powered by very low power single-ended PX4/PX25/Type 10/2A3/300B valve amps. These audio speakers music clean and translucent. They may be developed in higher quantities making it possible for great price performance.

Some information on my Peavey PR10 speakers

Old style speakers are good at reproducing the full audio spectrum whilst measuring fairly flat. When paired with the appropriate hardware this may present extraordinary seperation and location of vocals and instruments. It generates the type of sound where if you shut your eyes it's tough to see that you are in fact hearing a recording.
